Why Microsoft’s war on Windows’ Control Panel is taking so long

Microsoft has been attempting to deprecate Windows' Control Panel in favor of the Settings app since 2012, with the effort still ongoing over 14 years later. In a rare explanation, March Rogers (partner director of design) cited the complexity of ensuring compatibility with diverse network and printer devices and drivers. Recent progress includes migrating clock, keyboard, mouse, and regional settings into the modern Settings app.
