Who even uses jemalloc in 2026 anyway? (many major projects)

jemalloc, a widely-used alternative malloc implementation originally developed by Jason Evans at Meta, saw declining development after 2020 before being archived in early 2025. Meta later partnered with Evans to resume active maintenance, unarchiving the project and releasing version 5.3.1 after 4 years. Major projects including Redis, Rust compiler, Firefox, and TiKV continue to rely on jemalloc despite growing competition from tcmalloc and mimalloc.
