Meta to power its bit barns with energy from space

Meta has partnered with space-based solar startup Overview Energy to secure up to 1 GW of power from satellites that beam solar energy to Earth. The agreement provides early commercial access starting in 2030, with an orbital demonstration in 2028. The move addresses Meta's growing energy demands for AI datacenter expansion, leveraging geosynchronous satellites that beam near-infrared light to ground-based solar farms for 24/7 power generation.
