A Chinese government contractor accused of leading state-sponsored cyberattacks has been extradited from Italy to the United States. Xu Zewei, working for China's Ministry of State Security, targeted U.S. universities to steal COVID-19 pandemic research and participated in the Hafnium/Silk Typhoon campaigns compromising thousands of Microsoft Exchange servers beginning in 2021.
