Clarifai obtained 3 million user photos from OkCupid in 2014 to train facial recognition AI without authorization, violating the dating app's own privacy policies. The FTC launched an investigation in 2019 after a New York Times article exposed the practice, and both Clarifai and Match Group (OkCupid's parent) settled last month with Clarifai deleting the photos and associated models.
