Canonical is introducing permissions prompting to Ubuntu 24.10, an experimental feature enabling fine-grained, user-controlled access management for applications using AppArmor at the system call level. The feature works without requiring application code changes, allowing users to grant or deny specific directory and file access on a per-request basis. Implementation includes a new Flutter-based prompting client and Security Center component, launching as opt-in with plans for expansion to other interfaces in future releases.
